It’s been another whirlwind few days as we travelled from Singapore to LA via a night in Tokyo… then four days later onto Vancouver.
Stopping in Tokyo for 24 hours certainly validated our three week trip through Japan at the end of the year – John and I both instantly loved the city – with its unique blend of ultra modernity and tradition. With more and more cities feeling the same – it was great to be somewhere that really was totally unlike anywhere we’ve visited before.
Having only one night limited our ability to do much tourist stuff but we did fit in a visit to Tokyo National Museum which was fantastic, as well as a bit of a wander around the surrounding area before we needed to head to the airport for our overnight flight to LA.

Our flight to LA was uneventful – though having been awake over 24 hours upon arrival in LA we were both in desperate need of some sleep.
LA wasn’t a city we really had any burning desire to see and we only ended up there as the best flights we could get from Tokyo routed through there… Whilst it was a good place to spend a few days adjusting to our jet lag – it isn’t a city I’d rush back to… It’s just too large and too difficult to navigate as a tourist…
Having said that – we did manage to fit in a visit to Venice Beach (run down and kind of depressing) and the Getty Museum which was really incredible and would be somewhere I’d definitely return to again if I did happen to find myself back in LA.

We also hunted down one of LA’s many Mexican food trucks – as given the poor state of Mexican food in Australia – we’re working to ensure we have plenty of good Mexican while we can!
Yesterday we got up at 4am to get ready to leave for the Airport for our 7am flight to Vancouver… it was great flying into Vancouver to see snow capped mountains – we are hoping it will snow during our time here! If it does we should have a great view from the 30th floor apartment that’s our home in Vancouver (pic of last nights sunset below from it).
It’s currently around 2 degrees Celsius during the day here – which we are loving after a month of asian humidity.
We’ll be in Vancouver for the next two weeks – and it feels great to slow down the pace a little (this is after all our 7th country in just over four weeks).

I totally agree on LA. Though I had to be taken to hospital suffering from pneumonia. Excellent treatment.

I also agree re: LA , although I did like Sanata Monica & Hemrosa Beach. It’s a better place when you know people who live there.
Are you going to go to Whistler? it is so beautiful!

Makes a huge difference visiting anywhere if you know locals! We hadn’t considered Whistler but we’ll see if we can fit it in – I think it’s about two hours away ?

You can catch a lift up to the Roundhouse on the top of the mountain & have a drink. The little village is also really pretty.
